Sativa vs Indica

sativa vs indica

What’s the difference? A brief overview of sativa vs indica for the beginner.

Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, most people like to break down strains in two general groups: Sativa vs Indica (there’s also a third group, hybrid, but we’ll get into that another time). Hence, the reason for this grouping is to allow the user to achieve a specific effect.

For example, if you’re looking to stay active and uplifted, you would choose a sativa strain, which would provide more of a cerebral high. Whereas, if you’re looking to relax at home and perhaps enjoy a movie, you would choose an indica strain which is believed to be more physically sedating. In other words, more of a body high.

Here’s a quick overview of the two strains:

Appearance of sativa vs indica:

●     Taller plants

●     Longer, more narrow leaves

●     Shorter plants

●     Wider, more broad leaves

●     Cerebral High

●     Energetic effects

●     Physical High

●     Sedative effects

Medical (believed to help with):

●     Anxiety

●     Depression

●     Increased focus and creativity

●     Pain

●     Relaxation

●     Insomnia

●     Loss of appetite

There is much debate over whether or not it is as simple as breaking it down into 2 groups. Moreover, for the mainstream user who is just looking to alleviate a certain medical condition, simplifying it like this helps them to make a decision in picking a strain. For example, if I’m someone who is stressed out and suffering from lack of appetite, it’s much easier for me to pick a strain that from a group that generally provides the same effects such as relaxation and loss of appetite.

With that being said, everybody is different. On the other hand, don’t be afraid to try new strains to test how your body responds to the effects. That’s the fun part!

Finally, this is all about sativa vs indica. I hope you enjoy it.
